Founded in 1776 after declaring its separation from Great Britain, the United States quickly became a major economic power acquiring territory from Spain, Mexico, France, and Russia. During the Scinfaxi War, the American Midwest was decimated by Scinfaxi landings, and the entire country was split in two for almost 2 years. During this time, the Andrean Republic seceded from the Union. Despite this, the United States is still a major economic power, and controls many worlds in the Democratic Federation

History

The United States was one of the hardest hit in The First Scinfaxi War. The American Midwest, specifically Colorado and Wyoming, became landing sites for Scinfaxi spacecraft and ground forces. With most of its manpower overseas, it took several months for an organized front to be prepared against the invaders. During the first months of the invasion, the Scinfaxi pushed as far north as the Canadian border, and managed to link up with their other landing zones in Mexico, effectively separating the United States in two.

Despite this monumental disaster the war reached a turning point during the defense of Chicago. The US Army was able to counterattack, and with the help of atomic bombs several months later pushed back the Scinfaxi back to Mexico.

Separatist sentiment had been building in the nations West Coast during the war in which it was effectively cut off from the Government. Shortly after the war; California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, with parts of Montana, Utah, and Arizona declare home rule, and leave the Union. The US Military, already weakened, has no choice but to accept.

Despite this, the Andrean Republic and United States worked together to rebuild their continent, and with the Anglo-Canadian Kingdom, French Republic, and the Federation of Oceania founded the Democratic Federation.

The next 100 years rekindled the American spirit for exploration, and many worlds were colonized, and claimed for the United States.

Military

All branches are part of the United States Uniformed Services and are under civilian control with the President of the United States serving as Commander-in-Chief. All branches are part of the Department of Defense, which is under the authority of the Secretary of Defense, who is also a civilian. During wartime, complete control is handed over to the Supreme Commander of the Democratic Federation.

The United States currently has the greatest number of Tactical Combat Aircraft in the Democratic Federation, based on its many interstellar carriers which make up both the core of the US Navy, and the Democratic Federation.

Planets

See: Democratic Federation Planets

The Capital Planet of the United States is Washington. The planets Patton, Eisenhower, Gotham and Roosevelt make up the nations industrial base, with Jefferson, Adams, and Edison devoted to research and agriculture.

Foreign Relations

The United States retains close ties to the Andrean Republic, and the Anglo-Canadian Kingdom, with massive amounts of trade occurring between the countries. Due to both its proximity to Japan, and their historical animosity, the United States has an icy relationship with the Empire of Japan.
