Ryan's Raiders

Ryan’s Raiders is a criminal organization operating out of Welles in the Aegyptus Sector. It deals primarily with piracy and smuggling, accounting for hundreds of attacks on commercial shipping and civilian ships each year. Ryan’s Raiders are one of the most powerful pirate factions in the Orion Region, second perhaps only to the crime lords of the Luktopia Confederacy.

History

It is difficult to trace the early history of the Raiders, but what little is known indicates that in the early 2270s a man by the name of Ryan arrived in Luktopia. A native of the Andrean Republic planet Singapore, Ryan became distraught over what he saw as an unacceptable level of interference by the Andrean Republic. Traveling across the Democratic Federation, Brazilian Unitary, and even the New Weimar Republic, he found the same conditions everywhere he went. Finally settling in Luktopia, Ryan founded Ryan Industries, an import/export business. After nearly constant run-ins with the Greater German Reich, Ryan was forced to move into the smuggling business. When the Brazilian Unitary was pressured into stepping up its anti-piracy operations, rival criminal organizations began to move into Raider territory. Forced to up-gun his ships in order to survive, Ryan expanded his operations to include the boarding lightly defended vessels and stripping them of their cargo.

The Demona Grey Incident

One of the highest profile attacks conducted by the Raiders was the hijacking of the Demona Grey, an Oceania built Cruise Liner operated by the Wrightson Cruise Line. The ship carried 15,000 people and during the course of the attack over 200 people were injured, and 90 million dollars worth of valuables were stolen.
