Overview
The Miranda System is the secondary system under FNC control. It is heavily defended and patroled by the FNC Defense Forces, particularly since the conclusionof the recent Mirandan War. The system is rich in minable resources, and is home to several habitable celestial bodies of varying size and composition. Trade in the Miranda system is conducted mainly with the Democratic Federation via Bernadette, and with the FNC capital system of Newhall.
Inner Planets
Marsiin
Closest to the star Mergara, Marsiin is several times larger than earth and orbits the star close enough ( 0.03 AU) for temperatures to reach 4000 degrees farenheit. Marsiin is Finnish for Mars, the mythical Roman God of War, a fitting title for this broiling orb. Marsiin has been deemed inhospitable, partly because the star creates massive internal tides within the planet, which result in colossal volcanic eruptions and frequent earthquakes. The planet lacks an atmosphere, and it's red hot molten surface has earned it various nicknames with foreigners, including the red planet, Hades, and Martha.
Ventgrol
A rocky iron rich planet, Ventgrol lacks an atmosphere, and is governed by tidal forces just like Marsiin, these are considerably smaller however, thus, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are rare. It is believed that these geologic occurences will cease all together within the next 200 million years as the planet cools. Nevertheless the planet's proximity to the star means that temperatures fluctuate wildly between 1800 degrees on the light side and 100 degrees in the dark.
Sinäisy
The last of the inner planets, Sinäisy, is primarily rocky and has substantial mineral deposits. It is large enough to posses tectonic processes, and has a substantial atmosphere with approximately a 10% oxygen content. However, Sinäisy lacks surface water. The planet is home to a FNC Defense Forces Outpost, as well as a colossal planetary yard used to house outdated or unnecessary spacecraft and military equiptment. The aridity of the planet's climate means that the metal in this military hardware does not rust, thus preserving usable life. There is also a SAAB experimental weapons testing facility and a light shipyard on the surface of the planet, as well as a civilian research center jointly operated by several Nordic Universities. Water on Sinäisy is sucked out of the atmosphere through evaporators, however, the bulk of water consummed on Sinäisy is imported . The FNC takes great care to ensure that refuse from the planetary facilities is recovered and returned to its appropriate source planet.
Mirandan Belt
The region referred to as the Mirandan Belt consists of the Saifeven asteroid belt, Miranda IV, and V as well as the Mirandan asteroid belt.
Saifeven Asteroid Belt
The Saifeven Belt is a moderately sized collection of asteroids and planetoidal fragments left over from the system's formation. This belt is visible in the sky from Miranda IV.
Miranda
Miranda is slightly larger than earth, covered in water, and governed by plate tectonics. It is primarily temperate in climate, with surface ice covering the extreme polar fringes. Miranda is the most heavily populated planet in the system, and possesses 2 moons, Hyecala and Vestfal. Both moons are tidally locked in their orbits around Miranda. Hyecala, the smaller of the two moons is the more populated, it has an atmosphere, thiner than that on Miranda IV, but nevertheless habitable. Vestfal, is rocky and barren but still sparsely populated by people.
Miralar
Miralar is smaller than Miranda and possesses little atmosphere of its own. It no longer sustains plate tectonics yet retains a few volcanoes. Like Sinäisy, Miralar is a desert albeit a cold one where temperatures are almost always below freezing.
Outer Planets
Arede
Arede is a tremendous gas giant, and the largest orbiting body in the Miranda system. It is composed primarily of Hydrogen and is 35 times the diameter of Miranda, thus making it slightly larger than Sol's Jupiter. Arede has 59 moons of varying character. The 3rd moon, Ihego, is covered in liquid water that is heated by the massive tidal forces that are created by its proximity to its host. Ihego is home to a small colony of FNC settlers.
Tettrenholn
Tettrenholn is made mostly of nitrogen, it too has many moons, though most are smaller than those in orbit around Arede.
Silent Expanse
Inner Rim
The Inner Rim of the Silent Expanse consists of four small planetary bodies, these mineral rich orbs are Ierne,Hienghaus,Kulen and Dervienne.
Helsingborg Belt
Beyond the Inner Rim is the last planet of the Miranda System, Helsingborg. Orbiting over the planet, Helsingborg Station is a massive FNC military base, heavily fortified with railguns, and numerous strike craft squadrons, as well as listening arrays ,and a light shipyard. Further out from Helsingborg, is the Belt, a vast region filled with countless orbiting masses of rock, from the largest with diameters of thousands of kilometers to some the size of a suitcase. The region is scantily explored, and only Helsingborg has a sign of human presence.
