History
The United States was perhaps most heavily hit by the Scinfaxi Invasion of Earth, only its vast industrial complex and ingenious military strategy prevented the country from capitulation, however, for a period of over 2 years the country was completely cut in two. While constantly harassed and raided by allied forces, Scinfaxi territory extended from Mexico to Chicago, severing any communication the west coast had with the government in Washington.
In 1944 an emergency government was formed in Los Angeles, comprised almost entirely of high ranking military officials, it grew to inhabit all the roles required of an effectively independent nation. In 1947 when the Scinfaxi pulled out of the United States, the country was left devastated. With entire states all but destroyed, the US Government could not effectively re-establish a working government on the West Coast. Rather than attempt to, it was decided that while not formally a sovereign nation, the west coast would have much greater control of its own affairs, and be responsible for both rebuilding and governing its area of influence.
While it was intended that this new western government would one day rejoin the United States, by the 1970s it was a still a semi-independent state, North America was in a state of chaos as the Unification Wars divided the continent among a half dozen powers. In the 1940s and 1950s, millions of refugees from Asia and the Pacific had settled on the west coast, and many demanded a more vocal role in governmental policies. When the Washington Treaty was signed in 1977, the newly formed Andrean Republic, along with the French Republic, were declared sovereign states, and became a founding member of the Democratic Federation.
During the colonization period of the late 2090s and 2100s, the Andrean Republic helped settle many worlds in the Britannia sector, including the now heavily populated planets of Angeles and Singapore.
Military

The Andrean Republic is perhaps best known for its massive ground forces, comprised of both the Andrean Army, and the Republican Guard. Numerically, it is significantly larger, then either the armies of the United States or Anglo-Canadian Kingdom, and its armoured divisions are some of the most advanced in the Orion Region.
While the Andrean Navy is comprised mostly of troop transports and smaller atmospheric capable ships, it is still very advanced, and able to operate effectively on its own even when far from a friendly port.
The Andrean Air Force operates across hundreds of bases providing local planetary defense, as well as often being deployed to conflicts in neighbouring regions, Andrean bomber pilots carry with them a degree of infamy after effectively ending the Sirus World War within a few weeks of bombardment.
Foreign Relations
The Republics closest ally by far is the United States, despite its secession from the Union neither country harbours any ill will and the two countries have been partners in interstellar exploration for over two centuries. Ties are so close there is often talk of unifying the United States and Andrean Republic, but no suitable accommodations have been reached, and it is most likely the talks shall remain just that.
