Overview

New Leningrad is both the centre of the Soviet Government, as well as the Red Fleet. It is one of the most populous planets within the Soviet Union and by far the most industrialized. The planet is known throughout the Orion Region as an architectural marvel, with the entire planet pre-planned by its founders. The breathtaking nightlights, the precise traffic and the impressive landmarks mark it as one of the wonders of human development in the Orion Region.

History

Discovery

While the other human nations quickly spread away from Earth, the Soviet Union remained silent. Unbeknownst to the other major powers, Soviet Probes had long since scouted a region rich in habitable worlds, and plans had been made for some time detailing their Proletarian Colonisation. New Leningrad was among these, and chosen to be the Soviet Union's first major settlement. Its proximity to other star systems, and rich resources made it perfectly suited for the young interstellar Soviet Union.

Development

While other Soviet worlds flourished with growth, New Leningrad lagged far behind. The entire planet was not only the head of the Soviet Government, but a symbol of the communist regime. As such, every detail was designed with the “Glory of Communism” in mind. Massive public squares, perfect transportation systems, and enormous towers soon became the envy of not only the Soviet people, but the Orion Region. Massive campuses for the political and educational elite were built across the planet, precise and architecturally designed to be very instruments of propaganda themselves.

Completion

The extent of New Leningrad’s planning has never been revealed but estimates released to the public indicate the planet is currently about 52% complete. Demand for residential and commercial development is extremely high, but restrictions have kept this demand from being relieved.

Geography

Moons

Kuznetzov

Officially known as the Admiral Kuznetzov Red Banner New Leningrad Orbital Satellite is a militarized moon the site of several environmental training centres for exclusive military academies, and a naval base for the Red Space Forces. In addition, it hosts a significant component of one of New Leningrad's dedicated Air Armies from the Red Air Force.

Gori

Brezhnev

Home to a sophisticated interstellar communications network, the moon of Brezhnev is regarded as the interstellar communications hub of the Soviet Union. It is also here that the SVR and KGB have large visible or invisible concentrations of power, maintaining a stranglehold in the flow of information and communications pouring in from tens of thousands of relay stations across the Orion Region. Given its importance, it is regarded as a temporary Achilles heel to the Soviet command system that stretches the entirety of the USSR and its allies.

Ulyanovsk

Originally slated to become a military satellite moon, the Politburo stepped in and ordered the construction of special political academies and housing reserves for the intellectual dictatorship. Today, it is the source of where many Central Committee members have received their honours, promotions and keep their second or third Dachas.

Administration

As the heart of the Central Committee, the Politburo and the Premiership that rules the proletariat, New Leningrad is considered the most well organized and efficiently run Soviet planet within the entire USSR. Corruption is ruthlessly weeded out by the permanent KGB and NKVD presence on the planet, whilst disloyalty and subversion is crushed by the awesome display of might from the political police, the Red Army elite and the orbiting fleet manned by die hard fanatics.

Architecture

Education and Science

There are currently 1036 education campuses and 56 universities on New Leningrad. Besides these, there are 18 state universities for advanced education and 26 party colleges for political sciences.

New Leningrad is the financial centre of the USSR and the Kharkov Pact, and is well known into other countries for its science schools and universities across the Orion Region. Should a family be rich enough and politically bulletproof, many children from the Democratic Federation conduct exchange programs into the heart of the Soviet Union. Germans and Japanese, however, have been banned indefinitely.

The Vladimir Lenin Honorary Complex Reserve for Intellectual Pursuits is the largest of the institutes on New Leningrad, dominating fourteen major buildings dedicated to warp theory, biological science and nuclear physics in an exclusively developed valley north of New Moscow. Generally, only the sons and daughters of Committee level politicians and military officers have the necessary 'proletarian intellectualism' required for entrance in the so-called 'scientific breadbasket' of the USSR.

Transport

Orbit

The Vladimir Lenin Interplanetary Spaceport provides most of the orbital traffic control for a large sector of New Moscow, whilst there are seventeen other spaceports and aerospace fields for cargo landers and aircraft.

Mag-Lev

New Leningrad's mag-lev infrastructure is second to none, with networks stretching to every city on the planet, every spaceport and every major industrial facility across the planet. Every third mag-lev line is dedicated to the Strategic Rocket Forces and the 'shadow' directorates of the USSR's security services.

Economy

Infrastructure

Besides being the political and ideological capital of the USSR, the enormous infrastructure that supplies the Soviet military, the proletarian colonization programs and the industrial projects across the Union is centred around New Leningrad.

Industry

In orbit, New Leningrad produces hundreds of warships and civilian transport craft annually, whilst on land, military equipment is manufactured on the assembly lines and raw materials processed into refined resources.

Future Development

  • Plans for an orbital elevator near Chernenkov, are in discussion, with the New Leningrad Planning Committee pushing (with political pressure from proponents in the Council of Ministers and the Party Congress) for a dedicated spaceport city to surround it.

Locations

Red Fleet Headquarters

A skyscraper, the Red Fleet Headquarters is surrounded by a military compound of anti-orbital defences and barracks for an elite Naval Infantry brigade. Its formidable tower is crowned with the statues of the pioneering Cosmonauts of the Fleet, the first official soldiers of the Red Space Forces. Pointing to the stars, flag in their grip, it is the source of martial pride within the USSR to join the military and bring Communism to the galaxy, immortalizing themselves as patriots and heroes worthy of such memorials.

Military

The Red Fleet maintains a massive presence over New Leningrad, both for political and military purposes. The October Station is one of the largest orbital stations ever built, rivalled also by the impressive Admiralty Shipyards, which dominate a large sector of space above the Soviet capital.

Upon the planet itself, the NKVD patrol the streets and the KGB guards the opulent political infrastructure, while most elite and cherished formations of the Red Army garrison the surface and conduct high grade manoeuvres in the undeveloped land.

The Iosef Stalin Strategic Military Exercises held every two years is conducted upon New Leningrad, involving Red Army units from the New Moscow, regiments from the Red Air Force and squadrons from the Red Space Forces, as well as numerous units from the various component and strategic services that comprise the Soviet military's structure.
