Soviet Union

In the centuries since the October Revolution in 1917, the Soviet Union has developed in leaps and bounds far beyond those imagined by Comrade Lenin and his fellow Bolsheviks. What was once the sole outpost of true Communism on one planet, is now the Union of a hundred worlds, billions of people and huge swathes of the cold dark vacuum of space. From the shining Red Star atop Lenin Tower on New Leningrad, to the far away mining worlds on the edge of the human frontier, the Soviet Union controls hundreds of worlds spread across the entire Orion Arm.

Everywhere comrades work industriously for the future. In the factories of the Stalingrad System, industry rumbles on to the over fulfillment of the latest Ten Year Plan. In the offices of the Communist Party, dedicated workers strive to educate the international proletariat. In the ranks of the Armed Forces, comrade soldiers and sailors man the mighty armed behemoths to safeguard the Interstellar Revolution and the Union. This mighty coalition of peoples, ever united behind the Politburo, has, and will forever endure.

These years were not without their trials and tribulations however. The first few months of war with the German and then Scinfaxi invaders were times of darkness for the Union. Internal reactionaries, foreign capitalists and fascist Hitlerites rallied round to watch the Worker’s State fall to the oppressive alien heel, the sky darkened as the Marxist dialectic stumbled over the arrival of Imperialists from Outer Space. Even the Party faithful doubted in the face of such terrible an alliance of foes…

And yet the Ship of Communism did not sink, and at the helm, Dear Comrade Stalin brought the USSR through the dark times of the Great Patriotic War and into a new renaissance! Communism was born anew. In the aftermath of the alien defeat, Comrade Stalin dealt swiftly and ruthlessly with all who had threatened the Workers’ State, and then by his own genius and careful study of the dialectic, revealed to the assembled Party Congress: the Final Stage of Marxism.

In the name of Socialism, the Soviet Republics would expand into the stars, liberate world after world, defend them from capitalism and imperialism, be it human or alien. Lands unsullied by either false system of oppression would be the perfect ground for the construction of free Socialist states, untroubled by internal enemies, and built from day one to fulfill the promises of Communism. All that would then remain would be the inevitable revolution, as the might of the Interstellar Union enjoyed the benefits of Communism, to inspire the oppressed peoples to rise up for a new and glorious Socialist Future!

Due to the growing need for a more modern and versatile fighter, in the year 2264, design bureaus in the USSR were tasked with designing a strike fighter capable of aerospace and interstellar combat. Through many trials and prototypes by competing bureaus, the Mikoyan design won the contract, being versatile and mass producable for space and land based operations. It was lauded for outperforming Sukhoi’s technological flagship fighter, the Su-110 Fighter; and Tupolev’s heavy Tu-10 Heavy Fighter. Both of the later designs would go onto fuel the development of Soviet aviation in more specialized fields, ill-suited for the Red Fleet’s vast requirements.
