Universe
Dawn of Victory is set in an alternate universe that diverged from our timeline in 1944. The keen reader might detect several similarities to the WorldWar series of books written by Harry Turtledove, and while we did initially base our storyline on those books, over time we have added our own elements and changed others to the point where we consider Dawn of Victory to be an entirely separate universe. For thousands of years an alien virus known as the Scinfaxi had spread across the worlds of the Orion Arm, slowly infecting the local population, turning them into incubators for the next generation of the Scinfaxi race. These conquests had strengthened the Scinfaxi, utilizing and mimicking the technologies of long since destroyed races the Scinfaxi continued to spread across the inhabited worlds of the Orion Arm.
When they reached Earth in 1944 they cut a swath of destruction across the planet, the Scinfaxi virus, combined with their nightmarish technologies threatened to consume every last bit of life. The weapons of humanity turned from one another to the invaders, but resistance was neglible and for a time it seemed that all of Earth would be reduced to Scinfaxi infection. But while the virus had spread to nearly half of the planet’s surface, it seemed incapable of living in the colder climates of the northern hemisphere and soon began to wither and die.

As atomic detonations were unleashed on the Scinfaxi forces and their most potent weapon was rendered meaningless, the invaders withdrew to the southern hemisphere, content with the one section of the planet capable of hosting the virus.
Humanity had been saved, but as the years went on it became clear this was only a temporary situation. Across the world the virus began to expand further, the Scinfaxi Quarantine Zone was expanded time and time again as the four remaining superpowers worked to escape the dying Earth.

The first colonies were founded, mankind spread across the stars, but Earth was lost. Resigning it to its fate, the last of the population was evacuated and the surface was bombarded from orbit. As civilization advanced, and the new worlds were settled, humanity slowly forgot about the threat existing just beyond the fringe of known space and went about its own affairs.
The united front constructed to fight the Scinfaxi has dissolved and the old conflicts have once again emerged. As the Soviet Union, Greater German Reich and Democratic Federation move towards total war, they are all blind to the movement beyond the Scinfaxi Quarantine Zone.
