History 101

It’s been over a year since Dawn of Victory was announced, but the idea for the mod existed long before then. In fact the story begins as far back as 2004, it was a different time then, and as such the mod idea was very different as well.

We were all at Derelict Studios, blind to the oppression in which we lived, yet happy, or at least what passes for “happy” over there. I have no idea how the idea started but Derelict was looking into making a mod for Battle for Middle Earth. The usual ideas were there, a Blitz III mod, a modern war mod, but none seemed to take. It was then I began to develop a new story with DS mapper Hawk10134.

The Basics of Resources

While resources in Dawn of Victory are similar to their Sins of a Solar Empire counterparts, their purposes have been changed to fit the more militaristic focus of the mod. The core resources in Dawn of Victory are supplies, materials, and fuel.

Supplies are the backbone of your faction. This resource is comprised of the basics: food rations, water, uniforms, rifles, and other essentials. Supplies are generated by your planet’s population, and are used up when producing units. Supply bases, replacing the base game’s cargo bases, help speed up the flow of supplies to the various planets and military bases in your empire. As supplies are general-purpose, demanded by civilian industries as well, they are commonly used up in research and economic venues via government contracts.
